A slat mill is a curved wooden treadmill your dog powers with their own stride. There is no motor, so your dog controls the pace and can stop instantly. It is the same equipment used in professional canine conditioning programs and sport dog kennels.
Running Remy sessions are designed to be predictable, calm, and structured. Following these simple steps helps your dog arrive ready to work and ensures every session is safe, comfortable, and productive.
Set your dog up for a successful session.
Keep your dog’s routine consistent before their appointment. Ensure the van has a clear, accessible place to park and avoid major changes to food, medication, or activity.
Before we arrive:
A calm start creates a better workout.
Do not feed your dog for two hours before their session. Provide fresh water, allow a quick bathroom break, and have your dog ready on leash when we arrive.
Before we begin:
Recovery is part of the process.
Your dog may be calm, relaxed, or tired after a structured workout. We’ll send your Session Report Card within a few hours to track progress and share with your care team.
After your session:
Every session ends with a report card covering duration, distance, pace, effort, energy level, and behavioural notes. It also highlights key milestones and anything worth monitoring, such as fatigue, gait changes, or behaviour shifts. If your dog is under a vet's care or works with a trainer, the report can be shared with their team.

What is a dog slat mill?
A slat mill is a treadmill built from wooden slats mounted on a curved frame. It is dog-powered, not motorized. Your dog controls the pace, which makes it safer than a motorized treadmill and closer to a natural run.
Slat mill vs treadmill, what is the difference for dogs?
Motorized treadmills set the pace for the dog, which can push a dog past comfort. Slat mills are dog-driven and stop instantly when the dog stops. Slat mills also use natural running gait, not the shortened stride treadmills tend to cause.
What should I have ready before the van arrives?
A safe harness or collar, your dog's usual treats, and a bit of driveway or curb space for the van. That is it. We bring the mill, the water, and the towel.
What certifications does the handler have?
The handler’s approach is based on BAT 2.0 (Behavior Adjustment Training) principles, an evidence-based method focused on helping dogs build confidence, make better choices, and navigate challenging situations with less stress. Rather than relying on credentials alone, the focus is on applying modern, humane behaviour practices and individualized handling strategies for each dog.
My dog has never seen a slat mill before. Will they be okay?
Completely normal. Globally, 7 out of 10 dogs take some time to get comfortable. We never force or rush the introduction. Some dogs run on session 1. Others need 2–3 sessions to build confidence. We follow the dog’s lead.
My dog is reactive. Is this safe?
This is exactly what we’re designed for. One dog at a time, in a private van, with no other animals present, at your driveway. There are zero triggers inside the van. The slat mill session also provides the physical outlet that many reactive dogs are missing — which often reduces reactive behaviour over time.
My dog had surgery 8 weeks ago. Can they do this?
Post-surgery clients are welcome, and the slat mill is frequently recommended by veterinary physiotherapists for controlled recovery exercise. We require written veterinary clearance before starting a recovery program. Ask your vet about us — or ask us to send them an information sheet.
Can both my dogs come at once?
Yes, if they are from the same household and both dogs are comfortable with each other. Two-dog sessions run in the same 30-minute slot. We’ll assess suitability on the first visit.
Do I need to be home?
Yes, for your dog’s first few sessions. Once your dog is comfortable with the routine and you’re confident in the process, we can discuss keyless handoff arrangements for returning clients.
What if my dog hates it?
We’ll end the session early without charge. We’ll discuss what we observed and give you our honest assessment. Some dogs are not mill candidates and we’ll tell you that directly. We don’t push dogs who aren’t comfortable.
